The Soap Story

Picture
My name is Jen (and that's my dog Ky).  I am a founding member of Burma Humanitarian Mission (BHM).  In 1999, several friends and I started BHM, a small non-profit that raises money to supply and train backpacking medics in Burma.    It's not my job - we're all volunteers - but it's something I've found I can do to make a difference in the lives of others.  Yet, after about 8 years of fund raising, I began to feel burned out (as I'm sure my friends and family also did) hitting everyone up for money, and since I love to make soaps, I figured I'd make them to raise money for medicine.   Little did I realize what a hit they'd be.  Last year we raised over $2,500 on soaps!

Burma Save Soaps are hand-crafted of natural and botanical ingredients.  We make them in my kitchen.  And we sell them to raise funds for Burma Humanitarian Mission. The banner reads "lather up and save two lives" because each bar of soap raises enough money to provide a complete course of treatment for cerebral malaria (malaria falciparum) to an expecting mother and her unborn child.

To make it easier for people to order and make it a little easier on me, I set up this website so you can order on-line.    I donate all of the proceeds raised through this site to BHM.   I also want to use this site to highlight the many people who have contributed to Burma Humanitarian Mission by using Burma Save Soap as party favors at their weddings, showers, and Bat Mitzvahs.

I make the soaps twice a year and they're available until the supply runs out.  Each time, they're a little different because they're all hand made.  The soaps are of consistently wonderful quality and have a rich creamy lather and are a delightful way to indulge yourself while making a huge difference to people who really need our help.
